Imagine Communications has upgraded an existing news, production and playout infrastructure at Thai Public Broadcasting Services (Thai PBS), the leading public broadcaster in Thailand. The state-of-the-art installation gives the broadcaster greatly increased flexibility, scalability and speed for an operationally agile and future-focused solution through the use of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware running Nexio®? software from Imagine. The new Imagine solution enables Thai PBS to put content on air faster and easier to meet its audience’s voracious need for news content.
“We recognised that it was time to upgrade our server platform,” said Yothin Sitthibodikul, Broadcasting Department Director at Thai PBS. “Importantly, our operational team was familiar with the Imagine solutions, and their project plan kept us on air with no operational disturbances or downtime throughout the smooth transition to the new system.”
The new Thai PBS infrastructure incorporates Imagine Communications’ Versio™ IOX SAN storage running on Hewlett Packard Enterprise servers, together with Nexio asset management, including Nexio Motion™. The result is a more powerful asset management platform, allowing for the quick movement of content as well as greater flexibility in associating channels with outputs. The move to COTS-based hardware provides Thai PBS a future-proofed infrastructure that readies their mission-critical installation for growth in both channels and features as the need arises, keeping them at the forefront of technology and providing their viewers with the best viewing experience.
The existing content system at Thai PBS, which uses industry-proven ADC™ playout automation, together with servers, graphics and asset management from Imagine Communications, was installed in 2011. The new project, carried out in conjunction with Imagine’s Thai systems integration partner, B.E.C., replaces previous-generation Nexio servers with the latest Nexio software-defined content storage and management applications, running on COTS hardware platforms, providing Thai PBS a flexible infrastructure platform for future enhancements and expansion.
Imagine Communications’ Mathias Eckert, SVP and GM EMEA and APAC, Playout & Networking Solutions, added, “Thai PBS was a real global leader when it moved into its new headquarters in 2011, with an end-to-end, file-based system from Imagine Communications. Through the implementation of a COTS-based solution with specialized applications, we have addressed Thai PBS’ need to get on air quickly and to ensure the reliability and robustness of their playout services. This cost-effective and operationally agile solution puts Thai PBS on course for a long future of technical security and flexibility.”
