PerSys Harvests Data From Multiple Sources to Drive Revenues Through Personalization

With the amount of available on-demand content increasing exponentially, so too does the necessity for increased search functionality and user control. Leading video management software and services company, KIT digital, Inc., is extending the functionality of its VOD Store solution with PerSys, the personalisation system. PerSys gives clients the ability to rapidly deploy a recommendation engine, calling on internal and external data to drive consumption, and therefore revenues, through better access to the right content.

The core of KIT digital’s VOD Store solution is the Cosmos video platform, a scalable, broadcast-grade video content management system for multi-screen delivery. With the VOD Store, the only ‘drop in’ solution on the market, companies can build a solution that best meets their capacity, consumers, and business models, underpinned by flexible packaging and pricing tools. It supports not just multiple platforms but multiple geographies, including multi-lingual support and in-context authoring, allowing editorial staff to modify promotions and other aspects of the user experience simply and quickly.

PerSys is a new addition to the VOD Store, being seen for the first time at NAB 2013. It is designed specifically for the challenges of personalising the user’s experience, including ranking video content according to their individual preferences. It uses a flexible plug-in framework to support the rapid integration of new algorithms as they become available, including third party recommendation engines and data sources.

With a design approach based on rules, personalisation schemes can be quickly defined and invoked in PerSys and immediately implemented across the VOD Store. Through its API, PerSys can be integrated into any video solution.

“We are all agreed that consumers want to be able to access content when they want, and on the device of their choosing,” said Mark Christie, CTO of KIT digital. “One of the biggest challenges is helping them find content that matches their particular interests. With PerSys, broadcasters and content owners can develop very sophisticated personalisation systems, with highly effective recommendation engines drawing on multiple sources of data. The technology is simple to implement, develop and manage, and the results will lead to better monetisation of all content and growing revenues.”

PerSys and the VOD Store will be among the solutions demonstrated by KIT digital at NAB 2013, at booth SU 9121.
