Comprimato, a leading provider of high-resolution video compression technology, announced today that its advanced JPEG2000 codec is available as a plug-in for software-defined solutions from Imagine Communications. Workflow designers using Zenium™-powered products from Imagine Communications will be able to drag and drop the codec to create practical processes as required.

JPEG2000 is a popular and practical codec, adopted by a number of major broadcasters as an internal format. Its wavelet compression provides excellent image quality and good efficiency. Comprimato’s JPEG2000 codec technology uses the massively parallel processing available on today’s GPUs and CPUs to achieve high-speed processing, consistent latency and high quality.

The Comprimato codec is available as a software plug-in. Zenium is Imagine Communications’ next-generation modular platform for building smarter virtual applications and services. Zenium-powered products enable media organizations to use plug-ins, or micro-services, to quickly and easily create custom solutions. One of the first products to use Zenium is the SelenioFlex™ File media processing solution, which seamlessly blends transcoding and workflow capabilities to support a comprehensive range of formats.

“The key advantage of a software-defined architecture is the ability to drop in the functionality you require,” said Brick Eksten, Chief Product Officer, Imagine Communications. “Not every user will need JPEG2000 encoding and transcoding, but for those who do we can now offer Comprimato’s software codec as an optional plug-in.”

Comprimato founder and CEO Jirˇí Matela added, “We are delighted to be teaming up with Imagine Communications in this way. Working together, we are able to provide Zenium and SelenioFlex users with the fastest JPEG2000 codec and save many encoding hours.

Jirˇí Matela continues “JPEG2000 is a key requirement in IMF, DCP, or broadcast applications, so we are very excited to see how it will be used in combination with Imagine Communications flexible software-defined architecture.”

Imagine Communications will be demonstrating SelenioFlex File powered by Zenium at IBC on stand 4.A01, where the Comprimato codec can be seen as part of the plug-in architecture.
