New office and local manager boosts FilmLight’s Asia strategy and aspirations

FilmLight is celebrating BIRTV 2015 (26 – 29 August, China International Exhibition Center, Beijing) with a new representative and a new office in Beijing. The company has stepped up its local expansion to support the rapidly growing market for content creation in China and to strengthen its client connections, support and training.

The new head of FilmLight China is Eric Liu. Liu is a veteran of the post industry, with spells at both Avid and Apple before setting up his own distribution and reseller business, Digital Ocean. In the new FilmLight office in Beijing, Liu and a team of four sales and support staff will put in every effort to work closely with FilmLight’s expanding customer base in the country.

One of Liu’s first tasks has been the organisation of workshops and seminars during the month of July with FilmLight product experts Jacqui Loran, Daniele Siragusano and Bob Chorley, to present how a render-free, seamless workflow from set through editorial to finishing can deliver complete creative freedom as well as high productivity.

This will also be the theme for BIRTV, where FilmLight will be presenting its latest generation Baselight systems as well its range of solutions covering the complete end-to-end colour workflow; FLIP, the real-time image processor; the powerful dailies platform, Daylight; and Baselight Editions for editing and VFX. FilmLight will have its own stand in Hall 8 and will exhibit with resellers Jebsen Industrial and Socam.

“Over the eight years of doing business in China, we’ve learnt a lot and seen big changes,” said Wolfgang Lempp, FilmLight co-founder. “Chinese facilities are now in an ideal position to adopt sophisticated workflows and new technologies. In response to this, we have started to engage more directly with customers in China, like we do elsewhere in the world already.

“Eric’s background in this industry is a timely and valuable addition to FilmLight,” he added. “It is crucial that we find a partner who understands and supports our solutions and the philosophies behind them – Eric absolutely does this.”

Among FilmLight’s existing customer base in the region is Phenom Films, a specialist in VFX, DI, post and editorial, and Image Forestt Studios (IFS), a leading film production company. IFS recently adopted FilmLight’s extended end-to-end pipeline, adding Daylight dailies systems and Baselight for Avid plugins to integrate with its Baselight finishing systems.

Ethan Park, Baselight colourist at IFS, commented: “I’m thrilled to hear FilmLight keeps expanding in our Chinese creative business. I’ve worked with them for over 10 years now. As a colourist, the most important thing is a precise, accurate and stable solution that allows me to grade to my best ability — Baselight, and its complementary range of colour solutions, offers this and more.”

FilmLight’s latest solutions will be on display at BIRTV on booth 8B21.
