Imagine Communications, empowering the media and entertainment industry through transformative innovation, will present a range of solutions – deliverable today – that demonstrate the benefits of moving operations to software-defined architectures and virtualized environments during Broadcast India 2016 (20 October – 22 October, Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai), India’s premier event showcasing technology for Television, Film, Radio, Audio, IPTV, Mobile TV and its related fields.

As the broadcast industry seeks increased flexibility and versatility within traditional operations to meet rapidly evolving consumption requirements, Imagine Communications (Stand # B214) will be showing solutions, including UHD production, playout and branding tools, to help broadcasters build next-generation IP-based, software-defined and virtualized architectures.

Visitors to the Imagine Communications stand can see the latest version of Versio™, which is 100-percent software based, making it both versatile and adaptable across today’s production environments.  This integrated playout solution can be deployed on premises-based equipment, private datacenters, in the public cloud or even dedicated appliances. Versio simplifies the creation and management of channels and enables media companies to extend their brands and content with more freedom, visibility and control than ever before. It combines the best of the world’s automation, branding, graphics, file server, storage and master control capabilities in an entirely software-based environment. Versio is also adaptable to any input/output scenario — baseband, IP or hybrid combinations of the two.

“While many vendors are now scrambling to develop software-defined technologies, we identified the importance of this technology shift over three years ago and started down a development path to make sure our solutions were well placed to meet market demands,” said Joe Khodeir, senior vice president Asia Pacific at Imagine Communications. “We can deliver comprehensive, field-proven and highly scalable solutions for broadcast and multi-platform delivery which are flexible, take maximum advantage of standard IT hardware and virtualization, and are designed for hybrid environments that ease the transition to an all-IP world.

Broadcast India will also see the debut in India of Selenio™ One, Imagine Communications’ unified software-based platform.  This latest addition to the market leading Selenio family of processing and compression solutions is designed to empower today’s service providers and content distributors with the ability to control, manage, scale and evolve current and future compression operations and capabilities across multiple target applications.  Innovatively designed to handle a broad spectrum of compression activities and based on a modular software architecture that enables the platform to continuously scale and adapt to new business requirements, Selenio One provides media companies with the potential to consolidate all of their compression capabilities into a single, future-proof platform. Powered by Zenium™, this groundbreaking software framework enables media companies to protect and extend their infrastructure investments through seamless and continual integration of new technologies and formats.

The latest release of the Selenio One platform is also a critical product within Imagine’s CloudXtream™ multiscreen solutions. The new product is tightly integrated with Telurio™ Packager to support a broad selection of packaging formats and DRM technologies. The CloudXtream Dynamic Ad Insertion (DAI) solution, which enables video service providers, broadcasters, mobile operators, telcos and satellite providers to maximize advertising revenue from linear and on demand multiscreen advertising, will also be showcased at Broadcast India.

Support for UHD is available across Imagine Communications’ production, playout, distribution and monitoring products and will be featured at Broadcast India in conjunction with its SelenioFlex™ File media processing solution, which seamlessly blends transcoding and workflow capabilities to support a comprehensive range of formats. The file-to-file processing platform offers superior quality for post-production, archive and multiscreen distribution applications. The latest release of SelenioFlex File includes support for Apple ProRes, HEVC UHD Main 10 and Interoperable Master Format (IMF) file-based transcoding to enable UHD on-demand workflows.

Also on display will be SelenioFlex Live, which provides high-quality live encoding for high-value applications, from cloud DVR to live-event streaming to over-the-top (OTT) delivery of linear channels. With multi-format output flexibility and rich adaptive bitrate (ABR) streaming support, SelenioFlex Live enables operators to reach audiences with superior-quality, live viewing experiences across the broadest range of devices.

Featured solutions also include products from the SelenioNext™ family, which represents the cutting edge in high-performance, high-density encoding and transcoding. Powerful SelenioNext decoders provide the foundation for a complete headend infrastructure built in a compact and power-efficient footprint.

UHD support will also be featured at Broadcast India in conjunction with the Nexio+ Channelbrand™, a cost-effective, multichannel branding solution, combining integrated branding and video playback functions all in a single, flexible platform. It simplifies the creation, display and maintenance of a consistent brand, allowing broadcasters to get to air quickly and simply, with data-driven content, logos, time/temperature display, rolls/crawls, and EAS information.

“Media and entertainment companies are adopting next-generation agile solutions to ensure they are able to respond to the changing consumer demands and maintain a competitive advantage in an IP-centric, cloud-based virtualized world,” continued Khodeir. “Broadcast India is an ideal opportunity to showcase our innovations and discuss our vision with our customers, partners and industry leaders in this dynamic market.”
