Argosy brings Fast Switching and Intelligent Power Management to CABSAT

Infrastructure specialist demos full range of infrastructure and cabling products at flagship Middle Eastern show


Argosy, a leading international supplier of broadcast cables and infrastructure products, is demonstrating a full range of intelligent networking solutions during the CABSAT 2019 show (Hall 2 F2-30), to help broadcasters deliver the highest quality video in the fastest manner to their viewers, whilst minimising their costs and their environmental impact.

Smart switch in small package
A newcomer to the Argosy catalogue, the eagerly anticipated 1RU x950 Series high capacity modular switch by Allied Telesis is sure to be a hit for those CABSAT visitors whose growing networks demand the fastest speeds. The x950 is the ideal switch to place at the core of the high-performing modern enterprise network and is stackable to create a resilient local or distributed solution. Bandwidth can be increased at any time by adding more high speed ports. Other units can be added locally or over long distances to support distributed environments. These powerful switches come with in-built 100 Gigabit connectivity, delivering the capacity to enable today’s IoT networks.


Versatile fibre transport
Barnfind’s BarnMini plug and play fibre converters are described as the ‘Swiss army knife’ of converters. The range, implemented as small form-factor pluggable devices (SFPs), can be set up to achieve everything from a simple conversion to a complex solution. This allows broadcast and AV system designers to connect more or less anything to anything, providing flexibility and therefore a cost saving to installers who wish to fit communication devices within a facility, making use of the existing legacy infrastructure that is already in place.


Super-fast switching
kvm-tec’s 4K rapid switching and resilient extenders are aimed at high pressure environments like broadcast facilities, where quasi limitless matrix switching systems with up to 48 / 2000 endpoints can be implemented flexibly and cost-effectively without the need for central, expensive switches with limited endpoints.


The technology allows individual endpoints such as PCs, monitors and so on, to behave passively when controlled via the software. This results in less data traffic on large systems, as the end point only requires information at the moment of switching. These extenders, combined with a standard network switch, reduce cabling requirements and therefore, networking costs.


Intelligent power management
The intelligent EMU line of IP-based mains distribution units (MDUs) by IPE is also on show. The MDUs include an internet connection, allowing engineers to be able to check, manage and restart systems from any location. Its sensor outputs provide constant feedback on the health status of the rack.


The new EMU3’s embedded intelligence allows a scalable power management solution with a low resource outlay. An intuitive web interface provides quick and easy access to control and configuration facilities. The health status of racks and every connected output can be easily monitored and advanced email alerting provides extensive reporting back to system administrators and engineering teams.


Video patch panels
Argosy is also bringing Canare video patch panels to CABSAT, including the 32 way WECO video patch panel, a 75 ohm mid-size video patchbay and its 4K 12G-SDI sibling. Measuring 32in across, it can handle serial digital video in 3G-SDI, HD-SDI and SD-SDI formats and is aimed for use in studio, OB van or broadband telecom settings. Housed in a lightweight alloy body with beryllium copper and gold plated center contacts, it offers DC to 3.0GHz greater than 10dB return loss.


The 4K version requires no patch cord or looping plug and supports serial digital 12G-SDI video and offers return loss of 4dB or greater at 12.0GHz and isolation of 45dB or greater at 6.0GHz. It comes with a newly developed touch spring type switch, a Canare original micro video port and a dust proof shutter design within the front patch.


Finally, visitors can also see two broadcast-quality connector termination panels from UK company Cliff. A single panel mount supports audio, video, data, fibre, as well as HDMI, USB, Cat6. Also on show is the Ghielmetti compact connecting audio patch panel.
