New owners OKNO-TV UK adopt Megahertz brand and appoint new senior manager to expand business
Megahertz was acquired by systems integrator OKNO-TV UK in October 2013 and the combined forces of both companies will trade under the name of Megahertz Ltd.
Megahertz Ltd, with its facility in Ely, Cambridgeshire and international sales office in west London, has also strengthened its technical and commercial expertise enabling it to reach a more diverse and international market.
The existing management of the newly formed Megahertz Ltd will be based in the UK under the leadership of Managing Director, Jon Flay. The company will also be bolstered by the appointment of Igor Orlov as Managing Partner, charged with the expansion of the Megahertz brand in the CIS region. Orlov is a highly accomplished broadcast professional whose career has included senior appointments with Sony and RTR, the Russian state broadcaster.
Megahertz was responsible for one of the biggest technical projects in Europe in 2013 – the new BT Sport studio built on the London Olympic Park site and operated by the UK’s newest sports broadcaster. This high profile, state-of-the-art project had to be completed in a very short timescale and in challenging conditions, in order to get the new services on air in time for the start of the 2013/2014 football season last August.
“Megahertz has a remarkable reputation worldwide for the quality of work in both mobile and fixed installations,” said Jon Flay, MD of Megahertz Ltd. “OKNO-TV provides us with the financial and commercial stability, drawing on its remarkable reputation. Together, the rejuvenated Megahertz has new horizons and new strengths, alongside our existing depth of skills that seek to deliver the most innovative engineering solutions and value add for our clients. This is a great day for all of us.”
One of the Megahertz strengths is that it holds within the company a remarkable skillset, from the latest in design and modelling to software integration. Where other systems integrators rely on freelancers and sub-contractors, Megahertz can deliver a complete turnkey solution, from consultation to final training and handover, all in-house.
This ensures standards are maintained and minimises risk for its clients. In turn, this has resulted in a very high level of repeat business from broadcasters and facilities around the world, including the expansion of a file-based facility at e.TV in South Africa and a second Megahertz-constructed outside Broadcast truck for Astro in Malaysia.
